San Diego Botanic Garden GIS Database Design Review and Custom Layouts

San Diego Botanic Garden (SDBG) has been a legacy institution in San Diego for over 50 years. In addition to their 37 acre garden in Encinitas, they have a tremendous impact through botanical science, education, and conservation efforts in the Southwestern US. Through this project, commissioned by Nature Collective, we helped the SDBG staff learn how to leverage spatial data technology more efficiently.

The three aspects of this project were (1) a comprehensive review of SDBG’s ArcGIS Online Portal, (2) a series of educational workshops on GIS Database management and maximizing the use of ArcGIS Field Maps, and (3) the production of custom ArcGIS Pro Map Templates and Map Layouts.

The workshops helped connect the dots between decision making in geodatabase management in the ArcGIS Pro environment and the migration and management of those layers as actively used web layers in the ArcGIS Online environment. The custom map templates introduced themes from the organization’s existing branding and provided staff with adaptable portrait layouts and landscape layouts, bringing greater consistency to day-to-day map production and enhancing their team’s productivity for reporting by cutting down on the time spent on manual map setup in ArcGIS Pro.
