Who We Are

We help landowners and communities make informed decisions about their land.

Resilient Transitions is inspired by the ecological processes of forest succession and by the power of people to face challenges with ambition. This dual inspiration shapes our design and planning strategy. We are dedicated to helping our clients build adaptive capacity and to fostering resilient landscapes that can thrive in the face of change.

We pursue hope and take action in equal measure.

Scott Rothberg, PhD, Managing Director

Resilient Transitions is built on the belief that effective planning and data-driven insights can lead to ecological solutions that benefit both the land and the people connected to it. For 15 years I have had the privilege of sitting at the table with landowners, landscape architects, planners, habitat managers, and ecologists, all committed to finding a balance between conservation, development, and portfolio performance.

I began my career as an ecologist and researcher at the University of Florida, earning a Ph.D. in Design, Construction, and Planning, with my foundation rooted in Wildlife Ecology and Urban Planning. I spent years working with many of Florida’s landowners and conservation organizations learning how to integrate landscape conservation into strategic growth. I then relocated and served as Planning Director to an award-winning non-profit land trust based in San Diego County, helping them to better understand their land management strategies in the face of continuous development in Southern California.

I came to recognize the challenges faced at all planning scales: The small landowner seeking innovative solutions for working lands while feeling the pressure to cash out to development, and the large land manager seeking a deeper understanding of their role in sustaining a living system and the growing community they are a apart of.

Resilient Transitions is an asset to landowners, municipalities, and developers alike. As a planning and design firm we love leveraging geospatial technologies and mapping tools, but we offer a full suite of land management strategies, landscape design, and strategic planning expertise to tackle the unique challenges you and you team face. As the firm’s lead consultant, I bring a commitment to creating resilient landscapes that thrive in a changing world.
